Come down by the water at Tualatin Commons tomorrow at 1:30 PM for some Mothers Day Footy Race action. Bring Footys, Micro Magics, any other boat or no boat at all and do some hot sailing.
Schedule Glitch
I just noticed that our sailing schedule has a 3 week interval instead of the normal 2 week interval. As a result, we are not scheduled to sail this Sunday (May 6). Our next scheduled sail is Sunday May 13. This was inadvertent but after talking it over with Ted we decided to stick to the posted schedule.
That said, this Sunday (May 6) looks to be good weather. I drove by Westmoreland on McLoughlin Blvd. a couple of days ago and noticed water in the pond. Ted and I are going to meet at Westmoreland at 1:30 PM this Sunday to check it out and get in a bit of sailing. Feel free to join us.
Micro Magic Race Day 4/22
Weather is supposed to be incredible Sunday, so please join us at Tualatin Commons at 1:30 for Micro Magic Race Day. Don’t have a Micro Magic? Bring your Footy or whatever boat (or none) and you’ll be welcome.
Thanks to Fred for getting some information out of Portland Parks about Westmoreland Casting Pond a few days ago. They say they plan to clean the bottom and refill soon. Last I saw (Monday) it was still dry. I’d appreciate updates anyone can provide.
I would love to get responses as to who will (or won’t) join us on Sunday. Thanks.
2012 Membership
We at the Rose City Model Sailing Club are looking forward to a great sailing season in 2012. Officers will be meeting soon to prepare a schedule for racing and fun sailing events. This year we will include events targeted at our growing fleet of Micro Magics as well as our dependable Footys. We will attempt to avoid conflicts with the sailing dates for OMYC so that skippers so inclined can participate with both clubs. I’ll let you know when the schedule gets posted here on rcmsc.org.
It’s time for members to renew and for new members to join for 2012. I’m happy to let you know that our Secretary/Treasurer Ted Van Syckel is recovering nicely from the medical issues he endured last year and is taking back the reins of that position, ending my interim appointment. The annual dues are just $15, payable to RCMSC, and can be sent to Ted at the address shown on the application form linked on the About tab of this site. New members please print and complete the form and return with your check.
2011 in review
The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.
Here’s an excerpt:
A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 5,000 times in 2011. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 4 trips to carry that many people.
‘Twas the week before Christmas…
Our final scheduled sail of the season is scheduled for Sunday 12/18. There hasn’t been much interest in frozen finger sailing during this tail end of the season and Sunday’s forecast suggests nothing less. The event is hereby CANCELLED.
RCMSC officers will be meeting to put together the 2012 schedule, which will include both Footy and Micro Magic themed events. Keep an eye out for it.
Change in venue
Greg reports that Westmoreland is pretty low, so I’m going to take my MM to Tualatin this afternoon.
Sunday Sailing?
Is there any interest in holding to our scheduled Footy Fun Sail tomorrow (12/4) at 2 PM at Westmoreland? Show of hands, please. I plan to put my Micro Magic in the water and try her out again. I could bring along a Footy as well if there is interest.
Last time I was at Westmoreland (2 weeks ago) the water level was quite low. If anyone has more up to date information on the pond, please let me know. Thanks.
Footy Race Day Cancel
Based on response from my previous message, no Footy Race Day today. Ted and I plan to meet at Tualatin around 1 PM and sail Micro Magics. Join us if you wish.
Frozen Fingers Footy Race Day Tomorrow?
We have scheduled a Footy Race Day tomorrow (11/20), 2 PM at Tualatin Commons. While the weatherman claims we’ll see some sun, this is supposed to come with a high of 42°. I’d love to hear some feedback, but normally I think my inclination would be to call it off. I say “normally” because I have a reason to risk freezing my digits: I just finished my Micro Magic build (http://townsendpdx.com/rc-sailing/micro-magic/) and I’m anxious for a chance to get’er wet. So I may well hit Tualatin tomorrow with my HOCUS-POCUS.
If I hear interest in a Footy Race, I’ll bring along a Footy as well. Please let me know. Thanks.
