Westmoreland Footy Fun Sail, Nov 6, 2 PM (PST)

The weather forecast is looking better for us to get in our Footy Fun Sail at Westmoreland tomorrow, Nov. 6, at 2 PM. That’s Pacific Standard Time – don’t forget to Fall Back! Please join us. Also, please let me know if you can make it.

Mylar Sail Number Workshop?

When we formed RCMSC, one of our stated goals was to hold boat building workshops. How about starting out with a hands-on session for making and applying sail numbers using Mylar tape using Carl Hansen’s method:

I have used this method for sail numbers on all 4 of my boats and I’m very pleased with the results. I have a roll of black Mylar tape that I’ll be glad to share. The Mylar tape is silvery on the back, so is visible from the opposite side of the sail but is (to me) much more pleasing than the reverse appearance of an inked or painted number. All you would need to bring would be a paper printout of your desired numbers in the font and size of your choice. For example, my Micro Magic sail numbers are Arial Regular font, 214 point. The “USA” on my MM is Arial Regular, 156 point. For the sail number on my Razor 3 I used Century Gothic Bold, 152 point. I’d be glad to help brainstorm fonts and sizes with you and could even print out if you don’t have the means. If you don’t have an assigned sail number, why not? It’s free – just contact your class secretary and request them. I’d suggest you take the next step and register that number with AMYA which costs a whole $7, but at least get a number.

The purpose of this news post is to feel out interest in such a workshop. Please RSVP if you would be interested in participating and provide any guidance as to days and times that would work best for you. Where we hold the workshop will depend in part on the number of folks interested.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Fun Footy Race Day

Fun Footy Race Day at Tualatin yesterday. I think Mike and Ted and I got in 4 races – I neglected to write down results, but my recollection is that Mike won two and Ted and I each one. Light and variable winds favor the best skipper, I think, and I have little doubt that Mike is the class of our collection.

Footy Race Day 10/23

Please come out to Tualatin Commons for our Footy Race Day, Sunday 10/23 at 2 PM. All boats welcome. Want a chance to sail a Footy or a Micro Magic? Join us – we’ll have boats to loan.

Footy Race Day

We have a Footy Race Day scheduled for 2 PM tomorrow, Sunday 8/28 at Westmoreland. Please join us for some sailing fun – whether you bring a Footy, some other boat, or none at all. We’ll have some loaners for folks interested in trying it out.

Sunday, 8/14, Fun Beer Sail at Westmoreland, 2 PM

Please come out and join us Sunday, 8/14, at Westmoreland for our Fun Beer Sail. No beer at the park – that part will have to come after sailing at the Oaks Bottom Public House. All boat classes welcome. As always, we’ll have some loaner boats available for anyone who wants to try out RC sailing.

The Providence Bridge Pedal will be closing most of the Willamette River bridges in the morning, but everything should be back to normal by noon. Here’s a schedule: http://oregon.providence.org/ptkattachments/FormsInstructions/BRIDGE%20IMPACTS.pdf

Sunday July 31 Internet Course Sailing

Sunday July 31, join us at Tualatin Commons Pond for some Internet Course sailing. We are going to experiment again with a 2 PM start time in hopes of better winds. Bring your Footy or Micro Magic or whatever – or just show up and we’ll loan you a boat.

Sailing time for July 31?

Last Sunday we delayed the start time to 2 PM in hopes of better afternoon winds. Well, what we (make that “I” – there was only one person foolish enough to put a boat on the water) got was more rain than wind. It was no test of the theory. We have Internet Course sailing at Tualatin Commons coming up on July 31. Currently scheduled to start at Noon, but we may switch it to 2 PM (with plenty of notice). I’m still open to discussion of the start time issue – either through comment to this post or by voting on the poll from my previous post.
